Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.
MAYOR’S UPDATES
- Community Townhall: A conversation on the rise of antisemitism: I invite you to join me, Superintendent Dr. Lucero, and Stamford Police Department CT Lieutenant Jerry Junes to a community town hall meeting at the Stamford JCC hosted by the United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien. The event will be on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 pm and we will be discussing how the City of Stamford is responding to the rise of antisemitism and hate crimes. Please sign up here in advance to attend.
- Expanding Maternal Health in Stamford: I was proud to join Stamford’s Department of Health and Human Services in continuing to advocate for expansion of maternal health care services at Family Centers. This has always been a priority of my administration which is why we partnered with the state and received a $1M grant from the State Office of Early Childhood in addition to city resources being invested as part of this last budget. We need to advance to continue to take steps to improve the healthcare of all mothers and expecting mothers across Stamford. Learn more about this important effort here here.
- Happy 60th Anniversary to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF): The LWCF helps to ensure outdoors for all by funding local parks, ball fields, trails, green infrastructure, and other green spaces. As a proud member of the City Parks Alliance Mayors for Parks coalition, I’m committed to investing in our parks to ensure accessible green spaces and recreational opportunities for all in our community. That is why I recently announced a $100,000 grant from Synchrony and the Synchrony Foundation to the Stamford Parks Community Partnership, which will directly benefit our city’s parks and greenspaces.
- St. Leo’s Fair: Last Saturday was a fantastic day at the St. Leo’s Fair! It was great to see so many of you enjoying this Stamford tradition. Thank you to the volunteers and Stamford Police for your hard work and dedication.
- Connecticut Gun Buyback Program: In an ongoing effort to promote community safety, the Stamford Police Department is holding a gun buyback program on October 5th from 10:00am – 1:00pm at 725 Bedford Street. This initiative aims to reduce the number of unwanted firearms in our community, offering residents a safe and anonymous way to turn in firearms. By participating in this program, we are collectively working toward making Stamford a safer place for all. I encourage everyone to spread the word and take advantage of this important opportunity.
