If you ever decide to close, sell or move your business out of Stamford, you must unregister with the City. You may also need to unregister and pay payroll taxes to city, state, and federal agencies on the basis of your business type or employee status.

The Ferguson Library offers an extensive list of print and digital small business resources in their Small Business Resource Center. The Center also serves as a collaborative space, which promotes brainstorming and networking. The library will also host classes on topics related to small businesses. -
Connecticut Rapid Response Team for Displaced Workers
Exists to ease the impact of layoffs and to assure that workers are offered a full range of benefits and services. Comprised of representatives from the Labor Department and the local Workforce Investment Board. -
Connecticut Shared Work Program
If business ever takes a turn for the worst, this program can save the employer from the time and expense of hiring and training new workers by keeping skilled employees on the job through partial unemployment compensation until sales return to normal levels. -
Closing or Ending a Business in Connecticut
If you are closing your Connecticut business or if your out-of-state business will no longer be conducting business in Connecticut or if you are no longer subject to one for which you are registered, you can log into the Taxpayer Service Center (TSC-BUS) and click "Close Business or Tax Types" under Business Profile on the left toolbar.
